Mama B has built a children’s home and two schools.
We have dug a community well in Juja, where we also ran a Feeding Project (with deworming, head-shaving and basic medical supervision), run hugely popular safe-sex workshops, including the introduction of our Red Zone Dolls which explain to children how to say no and where touching is bad.
We have created a ‘secret school’ for women who want to learn to read and write, and set up training sessions in everything from manicure and pedicures to peanut butter making.
One of our most successful community projects has been the Raincatcher – a simple but effective water harvesting method. We began this in Maasailand and have now funded them across Western Kenya. Each Raincatcher serves around five families in a community. The availability of clean drinking water has more or less wipes out waterborne disease from cholera to diarrhoea in the areas.
